About us

Welcome to Darus Salam Mosque, a cornerstone of the Leicester Muslim community for nearly five decades. Established in the mid-1970s by local Bangladeshi families, our mosque was born from a need to serve the growing Muslim population in the Highfields area. As one of the oldest mosques in the city, Darus Salam has been a place of worship, education, and community support, witnessing the generations of Muslims who have called Leicester home.
From our humble beginnings, we have grown into a vibrant and inclusive center, open to all and dedicated to the spiritual and social well-being of our diverse community. We believe in nurturing a deep connection to Islam and fostering a sense of belonging and unity.
Our Services
At Darus Salam, we offer a wide range of services to cater to the spiritual, educational, and social needs of the community. These include:
- Five Daily Prayers & Jumu'ah (Friday) Prayer: We are open 365 days a year, providing a welcoming space for the five daily congregational prayers and the special Jumu'ah prayer, which includes a sermon (khutbah) delivered by our Imams.
- Educational Services: Our commitment to learning is central to our mission. We run a comprehensive Madrasah for children, providing classes in Quranic studies, Islamic studies, and Arabic language. We also offer classes for adults, including Tafseer (Quranic commentary) and study circles led by our Imams and scholars.
- Marriage Services (Nikah): Our qualified Imams provide Islamic marriage ceremonies (Nikah), helping couples begin their lives together in accordance with Islamic principles.
- Funeral Services: We offer compassionate and dignified funeral services for the Muslim community, including the ritual washing and shrouding of the deceased and the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah).
- Community Support: We are a hub for community life, offering spiritual guidance, advice, and a space for fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding. We also provide support and a listening ear to those in need.
- Special Events: Throughout the year, we host special prayers and programs for Islamic holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, as well as events during the blessed month of Ramadan, including Taraweeh prayers.
Our Facilities
Our mosque is designed to be a comfortable and accessible place for all worshippers. Our facilities include:
- Main Prayer Halls: Dedicated prayer spaces for men and women.
- Wudu (Ablution) Facilities: Clean and accessible areas for performing ritual ablution.
- Library: A collection of Islamic texts and resources for learning and research.
- Classrooms: Dedicated spaces for our Madrasah and other educational programs.
Darus Salam Mosque is more than just a place of worship; it is a spiritual home, a center of learning, and a beacon of peace and unity in the heart of Leicester. We invite you to join us in prayer, education, and community, as we continue to build upon the legacy of our founders and serve the generations to come.
