About us

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to serve as a spiritual and community hub for the Muslims of Leicester. We are dedicated to fostering a strong connection to Islam through education, worship, and community engagement. By upholding the values of unity, compassion, and service, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all, nurturing the next generation of Muslims while honouring the legacy of those who came before us.
OUR COMMUNITY
At Darus Salam, we are more than just a mosque; we are a family. Our community is built on a rich tapestry of different backgrounds, cultures, and generations, all united by our faith. We are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Through shared prayers, community events, and mutual support, we strive to build strong bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, reflecting the true spirit of Islam. We believe that by working together, we can create a stronger, more compassionate community for ourselves and for Leicester.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to be a leading center of Islamic excellence and community life in Leicester. We aspire to empower individuals with the knowledge and values of Islam, creating a place where faith is practiced with sincerity, knowledge is pursued with diligence, and community is built with compassion. We envision a future where Darus Salam is a beacon of peace, a source of spiritual guidance, and a place that enriches the lives of all who walk through our doors, contributing positively to the wider society of Leicester.

Welcome to Darus Salam Mosque, a cornerstone of the Leicester Muslim community for nearly five decades. Established in the mid-1970s by local Bangladeshi families, our mosque was born from a need to serve the growing Muslim population in the Highfields area. As one of the oldest mosques in the city, Darus Salam has been a place of worship, education, and community support, witnessing the generations of Muslims who have called Leicester home.

From our humble beginnings, we have grown into a vibrant and inclusive center, open to all and dedicated to the spiritual and social well-being of our diverse community. We believe in nurturing a deep connection to Islam and fostering a sense of belonging and unity.

Our Services

At Darus Salam, we offer a wide range of services to cater to the spiritual, educational, and social needs of the community. These include:

  • Five Daily Prayers & Jumu'ah (Friday) Prayer: We are open 365 days a year, providing a welcoming space for the five daily congregational prayers and the special Jumu'ah prayer, which includes a sermon (khutbah) delivered by our Imams.
  • Educational Services: Our commitment to learning is central to our mission. We run a comprehensive Madrasah for children, providing classes in Quranic studies, Islamic studies, and Arabic language. We also offer classes for adults, including Tafseer (Quranic commentary) and study circles led by our Imams and scholars.
  • Marriage Services (Nikah): Our qualified Imams provide Islamic marriage ceremonies (Nikah), helping couples begin their lives together in accordance with Islamic principles.
  • Funeral Services: We offer compassionate and dignified funeral services for the Muslim community, including the ritual washing and shrouding of the deceased and the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah).
  • Community Support: We are a hub for community life, offering spiritual guidance, advice, and a space for fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding. We also provide support and a listening ear to those in need.
  • Special Events: Throughout the year, we host special prayers and programs for Islamic holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, as well as events during the blessed month of Ramadan, including Taraweeh prayers.

Our Facilities

Our mosque is designed to be a comfortable and accessible place for all worshippers. Our facilities include:
